The idea for a stock show grew out of the Stock Show Association organized in Bloomfield to raise awareness of proper stock breeding to raise better animals. Awards in the form of ribbons were handed out for best team of mules, best draft stallion, best harness stallion, best jack, best bull, best harness goat, best all purpose team, best saddle colt, best two year old mule, best draft colt, best three year old mare, best two year old mare, best brood mare, best saddle mare, best lady driver, most graceful rider, best colt, best farm team, best driving team, and prettiest baby under 1 year old.
